Safe Cycling

Room 5, 12 and 18  are going to be participating in safe cycling from the 24th of November.  The first job we will be doing is checking that the bikes are safe for the children to ride.  A notice has been sent home with a safety check for the bikes before they come to school.

SPIKE IT UP!!!

Yahoooo!!! What a week we've had - our healthy product is called the MEGA SPIKE...our slogan is SPIKE IT UP!!!  We have had great learning discussions with Room 13 around the ingredients, we researched what we thought all the children might like to eat on the MEGA  SPIKE.  Money was a factor - some of the ingredients we wanted were too expensive...the watermelon and mango had to stay at Pak'n'save.  We had a fantastic afternoon tasting cheese, red grapes, green grapes, celery, apple, pineapple, carrot, minimallows, gummy bears and chocpicks.  We also had to decide what base would be the best one for our consumers - apple, orange or kiwifruit.  After our tasting afternoon we decided with our Room 13 buddies what the final recipe would be -  Room 18 used tally marks to collate all the data from the recipes that the children made and presented their findings to Room 13.  Check out the photo of the MEGA SPIKE to see which ingredients were loved the most.  We haven't decided if this is our final look yet...we are still in the process of trialling our product.
Now we are thinking carefully about our stall presentation and advertising.  We have lots of ideas up our sleeves and you'll soon be hearing from us - SPIKE IT UP!!!

Technology Day

Term 4

Market Day is on its way on Friday 14th November.  Room 18 has been working with Room 13 on our technology unit.  We decided we will be making hedgehogs and have spent time working out what our ingredients will be. Miss Akroyd and Mrs Stevens have been working with us on what our packaging will look like.  We have had to think about the label - nutrition information, ingredients, logo, colours, storage and where it is made.  We don't need a bar code because at our market day there will be no scanners!  We have lots of work to do this week...

Kahurangi Dance Group

We were lucky to have the Kahurangi Dance Group perform on Tuesday 17th June. They were absolutely amazing, the performance was incredibly professional with the children highly engaged the entire time. They used song/waiata and dance to tell the story of Matariki, showcasing the short poi, the long poi, mau rakau, taiaha and maori games.
